Both Medical Services and Mental Health Services are available to help in urgent situations seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Life-Threatening Situations
When there is a serious, life-threatening situation, you should activate the emergency support team and the ambulance services right away.
- Call 55555 on campus, or use one of the blue emergency lights
- Call 911 if you are off campus
- Explain your exact location and describe what is wrong
- Emergency help will arrive and evaluate the problem and assist with transport to the nearest and most appropriate medical facility
Examples of life-threatening situations are:
- Chest Pain
- Difficulty Breathing
- Major injury
- Unconsciousness
- Unresponsiveness
- Seizures
- Threatened or Attempted Suicide
Urgent Situations
The conditions listed below are examples of situations that require medical evaluation as soon as possible. These conditions should be evaluated at SHS while a doctor or nurse is on duty. You may walk into SHS and request to see a physician or nurse for evaluation. If the nurse is not on duty, call 56666 and select option # 1. A nurse will assist you by phone to direct you to the most appropriate facility for care.
- Significant pain (abdominal, head, neck, ear, chest, with fever)
- Breathing problems such as Asthma that is not responding to routine medications
- Pain or difficulty urinating
- Injury to extremity
- Lacerations
- Allergic reactions to food, substances, bee stings, etc
- Sexual Assault
SHS utilize Barnes Jewish Hospital Emergency Department which is located on Kingshighway. Call 314-362-5000 to reach the hospital.
Non-Urgent Situations
The most effective way to be evaluated at SHS for non-urgent conditions is to call ahead to schedule an appointment. Appointments are not available for same day services. If a situation is urgent, see instructions under “Urgent Situations”.
Call 5-6666 and select option # 3 to schedule an appointment.
Examples of non-urgent situations:
- Colds and sore throats without difficulty swallowing or breathing
- Minor scrapes and bruises
- Allergy conditions
- Routine care and follow up
