HIV TESTING AND COUNSELING OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS
Option #1: Student Health Services (SHS)
To make an appointment with a certified HIV specialist in Health Promotion Services: Call 935-8761.
Cost: $0 (2-3 weeks for results)
Procedure: In this program sponsored by the Missouri Department of Health, you have a brief pre-test session with a specialist and then go to the SHS lab, where the technician will draw blood and send it out for analysis. The specialist calls you when your results are ready to be picked up, and you must return for a brief post-test session in person.
Confidentiality: The provider will record your name. Your name will remain confidential and cannot be released without your official, written permission. However, any positive HIV result is reported to the Department of Health. All records of tests from this program are destroyed in two years.
Option # 2: Student Health Services (SHS)
To make an appointment with a medical provider: Call 935-6666, or use the Student Portal to schedule online.
Cost: Low after reimbursement. Discuss with your provider.
Procedure: During the visit, request an HIV test. The provider will order a blood test and send the blood to a lab in St. Louis.Results come back in 3 to 5 days, sometimes sooner. Your results will be communicated to you directly.
Confidentiality: The test results are recorded in your medical chart. All medical charts are confidential. Information from a chart can be released ONLY with your official, written permission, which designates exactly what information is to be sent to whom. However, any positive HIV result is reported to the Department of Health. There are other entities which by law may have access to information; e.g., any positive HIV result is reported to the Department of Health.
Option #3: Metropolitan Center for HIV/STD/Hepatitis Prevention Services (Metro)
To make an appointment: Call 612-5188 to make an appointment at Smiley Clinic, 5535 Delmar (walk-in appointments are available). To avoid confusion with other testing offered at Smiley, make sure to ask for Metro or Steve.
Cost : $0
Procedure : Blood or oral tests. Time for results depends on type of test. You must return in person for results, which can be matched to a number instead of your name if you choose.
Confidentiality: At Metro AIDS you can choose between confidential and anonymous testing. Confidential positive results are reported to the Department of Health.
Option #4: Planned Parenthood
No appointment necessary: Call 531-7526 for the Central West End clinic at 4251 Forest Park Avenue. Call 865-1850 for the South Grand clinic at 3401 South Grand.
Cost: $0-5
Procedure: Blood test. Results are available in 2-3 weeks in person. Same-day results are available through rapid testing.
Confidentiality: Testing is confidential, but positive results are reported to the Department of Health.
Option #5: Community Wellness Project

Option #6: Family Care Health Centers
